The Eagle rugby team has not missed a beat since they were crowned state champions in 2011.
The Eagles have started the season 5-0 and are continuing to be one of the most dominant teams in Houston. The Eagles opened up the 2012 campaign traveling to Austin to face Stony Point High School Tigers and came out victorious 48-0 in a very physical match.
The resilient defense only allowed Stony Point to cross their half of the field twice the entire match. Junior Keegan Mills played exceptionally at flyhalf while senior centers centers Narciso Cano and Roderick Blouin to exhaust the Tiger defense. Junior Parker White dominated the line outs and senior Chris Williams led all scores with 11 points, going 5 for 7 on kicking. White was named Man of the Match for the forwards while Williams and Mills took the honor for backs. The JV rugby team also came out victorious with a 72-0 win, setting a sub varsity record for points scored.
“It was a dominant way to start the year. If we play like that every night we have a chance of going undefeated.”
-Parker White, Junior
The Eagles did not miss a beat as they defeated Westside 79-0 the very next game. The Westside match was one of the most complete team wins by the Eagles. Junior CJ Seeman played outstanding and Amsler cleared the pitch for Mills to score easily.
The next week, STH took care of Memorial 78-3, adding another great performance to their 3-0 record.
“It seems that every week someone new steps up for the team,” said Senior Cole Richie.
The rugby team, much like the Eagle wrestlers, have proven themselves the paradigm of success in the Houston area. Junior Reed Hogan has made his presence felt, landing on the cover of the Memorial/River Oaks Examiner. Hogan and the rest of the Eagles defeated Kingwood to move to 4-0.
This past weekend, the STH rugby team traveled to Dallas to face Dallas Jesuit in the annual Bishops Cup. The Eagles continued their dominance and crushed Dallas Jesuit to move to 5-0.
