Rugby ready for season after Ruggapalooza

The annual Ruggapalooza rugby scrimmage was held on Saturday the 16th at the Houston Sports Park in Pearland.

“I think we looked pretty good out there. Our backs are much better than last year.”

Miguel Cano, junior

The scrimmage, sponsored by the Houston Youth Rugby Association, featured 9 rugby teams from around the Houston area and even the Alamo Heights Rugby Club from San Antonio. Saint Thomas scrimmaged Cy-Fair, Saint Pius, Bay Area, and Strake.

The first half of the day, the scrimmages were only half-field and lasted no longer than a few phases after starting off of lineouts and scrums.

The second half of the day was cut short due to lightning, but before the cancellation of the afternoon games Saint Thomas scrimmaged Cy-Fair on a full field.

The scrimmage was a step in the right direction towards the ultimate goal.

“Ruggapalooza was a great start towards our state championship run.”

-Eli Young, sophomore
