Scholars dominant in first “Scholars vs. Ballers” basketball game

Over a semester in the making, Friday, January 12th saw the champions of the student intramural 5 on 5 basketball competition take on a dream team of STH coaches, faculty, staff, and administration.

The Scholars team opened the game with a furiously paced 9-0 run behind the hard-charging play of Choices counselor Patrick Hagler and assistant head football coach Jerrod Johnson.  The Ballers answered late in the first half and took the lead into halftime.

The second half saw more offensive fireworks from the Scholars with intense hustle coming from Head Trainer Chris Valdez and track and cross country coach Nathan Labus.  The strong defense and rebounding of coach Ray Davis limited the Ballers to only 5 second-half points.

In the end, the Scholars hoisted the championship trophy with a 25 to 18 victory over the ballers.
