In February, the varsity wrestling team traveled to Lehigh, Penn. to compete in the Prep National Meet.
Four medals were awarded to Houston wrestlers, and all four went to St. Thomas.
Each class had one wrestler who gained a medal, a sign for the promising future and success of the wrestling program.
In the 145-pound weight class, freshman Ricky Regas went 4 and 2 in the tournament, gaining hopefully his first medal of more as an Eagle.
Sophomore Nick Bennett entered the 126lb weight class and won his first two matches before falling in his third to the third-seeded opponent.
Junior Travis Bradford placed sixth after losing to the second seeded wrestler, but winning four matches, one on forfeit.
Senior Nick Rossi was impressive after missing much of the season due to a football injury, pinning two opponents and beating two more on decision.
Rossi was proud to be recognized as an All-American and to represent St. Thomas.
“I have always wanted to beat Thomas Mancha’s fourth place finish [at Prep Nationals] in ‘06, but I am alright with seventh place,” said Rossi.
