Evan Levy ’25 has been the starting point guard on the St. Thomas Varsity basketball team since his freshman year and has proven himself throughout the last two seasons and will once again prosper on the court this upcoming 2023-2024 season.
Evan’s interest in basketball began in kindergarten where he discovered the sport while playing with friends which quickly led to an enduring love for the game.
“I always played with friends at school in kindergarten, and I was good at it,” Evan recalls with a smile.
This early spark laid the foundation for a journey that would see him become “a notable presence on the court,” said Evan. As a player, he also showcases his versatility in various positions. “I play guard, point guard, and shooting guard,” he explains. This versatility makes Evan’s proficiency an asset to the team.
Evan enjoys playing club basketball outside of school and even displays some of the differences between the two. “In school basketball is more organized and sometimes the opponents can be easier to play against,” he explains. However, when it comes to club basketball, “It is harder because people from around the city are able to go to any team they want,” Evan adds on.
Past high school basketball, Evan remains open-minded, “Anywhere is fine, although University of Houston would be fine because it is in Houston,” he shares. Evan is very determined to continue his basketball career past high school and possibly even past college as he exemplifies great passion for the sport during practice and in the game. He is also deeply influenced by those who inspire him. “My idol is Steph Curry for the way he is able to shoot the way,” Evan reveals. This motivates him to be inspired by the Golden State Warriors legend and allows him to dominate on the court by shooting three’s just how Steph Curry does.
Evan’s pre-game and post-game rituals offer a glimpse into his preferences. “Favorite pre-game meal is sushi because I used to always eat sushi before middle school games and would score a lot of points. My favorite post-game meal is Domino’s pizza,” said Evan.
As for the upcoming season, Evan has great hopes for him and the team. “We are looking good, our whole team is looking to prove everyone wrong about how we are,” he asserts. Following last season’s achieving record, Evan hopes to continue that on and possibly make it to the State Championship.
