The St. Thomas Eagles took on the Trinity Christian Trojans Last Friday in what was shaping up to be an amazing first-round playoff game. Jr. Derek Stevenson returned the opening kickoff 50 yards, electrifying the crowd. St. Thomas then took the lead early with a 43-yard touchdown pass from Pierce Jacobson to Derek Stevenson. Shortly after Jr. Jacob Quinlen intercepted Trinity Christian QB Hunter Flatt and returned it for a 65-yard pick-six. Jr. Michael Taylor chipped in a 22-yard Field goal. The St. Thomas Defense shut out the Trojans in the first quarter. The first quarter closed with St. Thomas 17 to the Trojans 0.
The second quarter opened with a Trojan Touchdown however it was quickly followed by an amazing play from Nate Tidwell. Nate Tidwell caught a 54-yard touchdown pass from Peirce Jacobson to respond. The Half ended with St. Thomas 24 to Trinity Christian 7.
St. Thomas drove down the field on their first drive of the second half, with Kenyon Navarre Rushing into the endzone to put up seven more. The St. Thomas defense shut out the Trojans in the third quarter; however, the St. Thomas’ offense was also shut out after the first touchdown. Closing the third quarter at St. Thomas 31 Trojans 7.
However, the Trojan defense shut out the Eagles offense in the Fourth Quarter. Followed by a strong touchdown from the Trojans. With the game nearing a close and Trinity Christian being down by 16 the Trojans elected to kick an onside kick which they recovered. They backed this up with another quick touchdown. Making the game Trinity Christian 19 St. Thomas 31. Trinity Christian elected to kick another onside kick however this time Wells Granger recovers it making it St. Thomas BallEnding the game.
This win bumped up the Eagle’s record to 6 and 5 and moved them on to the second round of the playoffs where they will face the St. Michaels Warriors.
