Last Saturday, the St. Thomas Chess Team led by rising seniors Oscar Pena, Steven Gonzalez, Jacob Mattews, Jeyoon Park and David Rodriguez, battled to 3rd place at the Cardinal’s Cup Catholic Schools Chess Tournament.  Strong support was brought by rising upper classman Will Gardner and further outstanding performances were logged by freshman sensations Connor Popeszku and Zachary Voltz.

In fact, both Popeszku and Rodriguez earned distinguished individual honors in the high school section.

This stellar performance caps the second year of interscholastic chess competition for St. Thomas Eagle Chess.  A year in which your Eagle Chess Club also earned two seconds and a first place honor at other city-wide tournaments.
