The championship was held in Glen Rose, Texas at the Squaw Valley Golf Course. Fisher was accompanied by the other Varsity golf team members including seniors Cameron Condara, Ryan Risoli, Curtis Brady, Nolan Rizzo and junior Henry Suman.
As a team, the Eagles ended up in second behind Beaumont Kelly by two shots, but nonetheless shot an impressive 289-292. Fisher won with rounds of 68 and 70, six under, which is a fantastic score for any high school golfer. In the class of 2016, Fisher is ranked number 27, and that ranking includes the UIL state champions. The great performance Fisher put on for his team was one of many in the recent months.
The golf team had a stellar season and it was capped off with another outstanding performance in the state championship which led to a second place finish. With the departure of many of the team’s best players to play the game, the golf team is entering a stage of rebuilding that many of the other varsity sports are also in.
These coaches hope players from junior varsity and maybe even freshmen can step up and fill the large void the senior class is leaving. The task at hand is a long and treacherous journey but the Eagle coaching staff have done this time and time again. With all this experience, we can definitely count on the fact that Eagle athletics will still continue to thrive and prosper and bring home more state championships.
We will just have to wait and see what the future holds for our athletics program, St. Thomas. But we shall always know that Eagle fight never dies.
