The Fading Rivalry
For generations, St. Thomas has had a hot-blooded rivalry with Strake Jesuit. This rivalry has gone on for so long, I remember my dad telling me stories of how they would always beat them in sports and try to prove they were better. Sports were the biggest ways these two schools would battle it out trying to surpass the other, so they can rub it in their faces the next day. Sadly, over the years many of our sports teams stopped playing theirs (more like their sports teams stopped playing us because we were so good). This issue is leading to a fading rivalry that may cease to exist one day.
The only team left at St. Thomas that still plays Strake is our rugby team. This is the last team that carries the legacy of this long rivalry. Personally, I think we need to restore this dying competition and continue to fight fiercely with the Jesuits. Many ways we can do this is by going to the strake rugby games and cheering on our players who are carrying the legacy of this rivalry on their shoulders. Maybe one day we can have more teams that continue the rivalry but for now, all we have is our rugby team. I along with many others do not wish to see this legendary fight end and die out. So, I ask my eagle brothers to stand up and keep cheering on our players so that they can push their hardest to prove we are the better school.
